Snapshots No. 5 - Home for the Holidays

Contrary to typical teenage instincts, I believe my parents have pretty good taste. In fact, I even find that we have similar tastes, and that goes for clothes, music,and  movies. This means that either I have the style sense of a fifty year-old, or my parents are actually somewhat hip. Anyway, I've got to hand it to them for the Christmas decorations this year. They quite outdid themselves, puttering around like magical Christmas elves and adding twinkling lights and wreaths everywhere. I can't even remember registering when any of their decorating happened. I feel like I just woke up one day and voilà, the place was all lush with red poinsettias, holly branches, and pseudo-vintage tin cherubs. Or maybe, the reason I haven't noticed anything until now is due to the fact that I've locked myself in my room to write college supplementals..#bestchristmasever. But hey, at least our house is pretty and filled with random boxes of Christmas cookies (extra pounds) lying everywhere :)

Snapshots No. 4 - Snow Day :)

As I write this, I'm sitting happily in my cozy house reveling in the bliss of the first snow day of the year. I woke up this morning, drowsily peeked open one eye, and almost cried when I registered the unbelievable winter wonderland scene outside my window, the bedside alarm clock that read 9 A.M., and the realization that I'd evaded the educational system for one heavenly day. So, in order to appreciate the joy of a snow day to its utmost authenticity, I swear that after this update I won't go on the internet again. Instead, I'm looking forward to the old-fashioned drill of watching movies, reading books, playing boardgames, and sipping hot cocoa.

I was reminiscing through old photo albums today and flashbacked to my 5 year-old self splashing through the clear waters and white sands of Borocay, a small island in my homeland, the Philippines. Wish I was there right now, but hopefully I'll get to visit home sometime this year!

Snapshots No. 1

This is just me basking in what is the epitome of suburban supremacy...a plastic pool, a backyard, and a dog.

Compared to me at twelve, when I was, as I like to say, an energetic little ball of sunshine, I'm now not as inclined to jump into a stagnant, cold body of water unless it's scorching hot, the ocean, a pool party, or with friends. I just never know how to entertain myself in a pool anymore. What do you do in them now besides aimlessly float around? Anyway, at least the jacuzzi is quite nice, and the re-landscaping of our backyard has been a great success. What that means is that now I've got the perfect summer hangout spot for magazine reading, late-night hot tub dips, and al fresco dining :)

Poolside Chilling

 

There’s something about a casual summer dress that can just put you in the right mood. This little piece was so easy to slip on and go, and it was so breezy and comfortable while I was out doing errands today. I love how girls and women living in my hometown suburb are starting to wear dresses on the daily now. Maybe not the majority, but at least some of us are putting more effort into what we wear instead of the usual jean shorts, basic tank top, and flip flops!

London+Paris Video Diary!

I'm not ready to let go of Europe just yet, so I spent pretty much the whole day making this video, shamelessly reminiscing and basking in nostalgia. A nostalgia for naught 24 hours ago when I was still in the City of Light, stuffing my face with as much authentic pains au chocolats as I could while listening to Carla Bruni in the airport. I was already feeling sentimental then towards a trip which hadn't even ended. Anyway, I had a fun fun time making my first video diary. I know it's a bit shaky, and my camera skills are overwhelmingly amateur and borderline sucky (or should I say shaky), but nonetheless I hope you enjoy it! Sorry it's a tad long, too. I got carried away, but with good reason.

Instagrams from Europe

I'm back in America, folks! Home sweet home. I never thought I'd admit it, but I guess after 10 marathon-like days of non-stop sightseeing, suburban, small town U.S.A. can actually be quite charming. But that's not to discredit any of the beauty and loveliness that was my fantastic trip to Europe. I just arrived from the airport a few hours ago, and my internal clock is currently set at 4 A.M. right now, but before I go to bed I wanted to share with you all a few pics from my Instagram that I took whilst globetrotting in Belgium and, mostly, Paris :)

Ballet, Jewels, and Studs

Meet my new babies! I got them a few days ago at DSW, aka shoe heaven. I'm currently obsessed with the nude ballet flat, which I swear is really a ballet slipper in disguise. Just look at it. My second favorite out of the three is the blue-crystal-accented sandal. I have a  thing for thong sandals this summer, and the light turquoise + gold combo just makes it ten times better. Lastly, those black flats are a classic with an edgier twist, taking it from a noob-looking ballet flat (as I find most black ballet flats look), to one with a chic spice.

New Tops for June

I'm still so equivocal in my opinion toward blogging about clothes. It's not like I'm the best at it, and it's not the most substantial topic out there, but it's a heck of a fun one, at least for me. Call it my guilty pleasure, but has it ever hurt anyone to relish the joy of lovely outfits and the allure of a stylish life? I may come across as materialistic at times, but really, what I'm obsessed with is not necessarily the clothes themselves, but everything they can represent. With that, let me show off some shiny new things I bought recently :) I tried to mix things up by buying brighter colors and different textures, because reviewing my closet, too many of my shirts (the essential tee times 10) looked exactly the same but in various pastels.

Favorite buy of them all? This lipstick from J. Crew in French Martini. It's not as coral bright as the box, but instead goes on a bit lighter, softer, pinker, and somewhat more translucent. You could layer on more for that bright coral, which would make a great accent for any summer outfit, or swipe on a sheer layer for everyday wear.

El Yunque.

I still think about you, Puerto Rico. You were like a summer fling that I'll always have a thing for in my heart. What I would do to go back to that gem of an island. Here's some shots of El Yunque, the national rainforest. Due to several weeks donning layers upon layers of wintery clothes, I refused to wear anything more than a top and jean shorts in rebellion of the burden of winter clothes. Boy was it nice to feel the sun on my shoulders once more.

Old San Juan

I've fallen desperately in love with Puerto Rico. It broke my heart to have to return to snow-covered suburbia and leave behind such a beautiful island with its happy people and lazy lifestyle. I now know not to label Puerto Rico as just another Caribbean island. It has so much history and culture to its name that makes it much more than just pristine beaches and palm trees. Of course, the balmy climate, as in all tropical places, warmed me up like a charm and set me up for pure enjoyment with the delicious island food, the world-class surfing sites, and the festive, carefree atmosphere. I present to you some pictures of charming Old San Juan, taken with my iPhone since I didn't have my big chunky DSLR at the time, so the quality is ehh, but I hope you'll excuse that with such a beautiful, beautiful place. And it isn't just the place, Puerto Ricans are good looking people amigos.

Coconut Crochet

Hola from beautiful Puerto Rico! It's gloriously warm and sunny here, and after a day of tanning I finally don't feel like a dull tree with dry bark.. Never gonna leave.

Holiday Spirit

Merry Christmas everyone! In the tradition of gifts and new things, here are some of the clothes I bought from my trip to NYC, including a minimalistic holiday shirt that hangs perfectly, various essentials sealed up in Japanese technology, and a winter-print scarf with matching socks.

But in the true spirit of Christmas, last Sunday I went to mass in St. Patrick's Cathedral right in the midst of the hustle and bustle of glittering stores in the city. It was a wakeup call for me, reminding me that Christmas is less about Santa Clause and more about, oh that's right, the Son of God.

NYC Christmas Day 2 - Shopping

Feast your eyes on some stylish sites in NYC!

I was so lucky to have discovered Uniqlo, a wonderful Japanese store on the famed 5th avenue. Very nifty place, and it's so unassumingly huge! It's like something straight out of Harry Potter, where it looks small on the outside but somehow magically expands inside. Don't miss this, and you won't regret the great prices and cool packaging.

The window displays of Bergdorf Goodman were whimisical and dazzling and luxurious. I only took one picture with relatively little glare, so take it as a preview of what's there. Until next time, Merry Christmas!
